Radical Ventures is co-leading an investment in Discovery Loop, a public benefit company founded by AI research pioneers Jeff Dean, Sanjay Ghemawat, Quoc Le, and Oriol Vinyals.
Our founding thesis has long held that AI will not only replace conventional software but also unlock breakthroughs across science and engineering. Discovery Loop is a direct expression of that belief: the company is setting out to automate the scientific method itself, deploying AI systems that run thousands of experiments in parallel — proposing hypotheses, executing tests, analyzing results, and iterating, all without human intervention.
The founding team is exceptional. As CEO, Jeff Dean led Google Brain and co-directed Gemini. Sanjay Ghemawat architected foundational distributed-systems infrastructure, including the Google File System and Bigtable. Quoc Le helped pioneer modern deep learning and co-invented sequence-to-sequence learning. Oriol Vinyals drove landmark research at DeepMind and co-led Gemini. Together they bring depth across silicon, foundation models, and large-scale distributed computing — the full stack required to automate discovery.
The team is starting with the automation of machine learning research, then intends to take on challenges across engineering, medicine, materials science, and clean energy.
Discovery Loop is building an in-person team in Palo Alto and invites interested candidates to learn more at discoveryloop.com.
