Inherent is a London AI lab building general-purpose inventive AI to accelerate scientific discovery. The company applies recursive self-improvement not just to its models but to its research organization as a whole, using AI agents to automate and compound progress across every dimension of the lab’s work.
Co-founders Teddy Collins, Ed Hughes, Louis Kirsch, and Kaloyan Aleksiev bring deep and complementary experience to this problem. Teddy spent nearly a decade at DeepMind, where he created and led the firm’s meta-research team before serving in senior roles at the White House under President Biden, including on the National Security Council. Ed and Louis co-led DeepMind’s AI Scientist team, with Louis completing his PhD under Jürgen Schmidhuber, one of the earliest and most prominent proponents of recursive self-improvement, on automatically discovering new generalizable learning algorithms. Kaloyan was among the first machine learning engineers at Reka, where he built the inference infrastructure that underpins high-throughput recursive systems.
